Pink Eye Home Remedy

Pink Eye Home Remedies and Treatment Tips

Conjunctivitis, commonly known as pinkeye, is an inflammation of the conjunctiva, the clear membrane that covers the white part of the eye and the inner surface of the eyelids. Conjunctivitis can be caused by infections (such as bacteria and viruses), allergies, or substances that irritate the eyes. Pinkeye can be caused by many of the bacteria and viruses responsible for colds and other infections, — including ear infections, sinus infections, and sore throats — and by the same types of bacteria that cause the sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) chlamydia and gonorrhea. Pinkeye also can be caused by allergies. These cases tend to happen more frequently among kids who also have other allergic conditions, such as hay fever. Some triggers of allergic conjunctivitis include grass, ragweed pollen, animal dander, and dust mites.

Viral Conjunctivitis or contagious pink eye is usually caused by viruses that spread from other different ailments like colds, sore throats, respiratory infections and others. Bacterial Conjunctivitis is caused by certain types of bacteria that have made their way to the eye. Common bacteria include staphylococci and streptococci. Allergic Conjunctivitis is caused by allergic reactions to different substances such as fumes, cosmetics, medication, and many others. Pink eye usually effects people who have allergic conditions.Newborns are particularly susceptible to pinkeye and can be more prone to serious health complications

Sometimes a substance in the environment can irritate the eyes and cause pinkeye; for example, chemicals (such as chlorine and soaps) and air pollutants (such as smoke and fumes).Redness, irritation and watering of the eyes are symptoms common to all forms of conjunctivitis. Itch is variable. Acute allergic conjunctivitis is typically itchy, sometimes distressingly so, and the patient often complains of some lid swelling. Chronic allergy often causes just itch or irritation, and often much frustration because the absence of redness or discharge can lead to accusations of hypochondria.

Question...

Anyone know a quick home-made pink eye remedy?

I got pink eye two weeks ago, and albeit using hot compresses, wiping away from the eye, keeping it clean, no contacts etc., my pink eye has gotten worse. I have thick green goop in my eyes and milky film over the pupil and iris. My eyes are kind of purply when I wake up, but turn more pink towards the end of the day. I cant make a doctors appt. at the moment, so does anyone know a good, healthy, home remedy that can work quick? Anything would be great. Thanks :)

Here are a few home remedies:

Colloidal Silver -- Put two drops of colloidal silver in your eyes two or three times a day. Colloidal silver has been known to cure pink eye as quickly as six hours. You have had your pink eye for some time so it will take longer. Be sure to use a few days after healing to be safe.

Castor Oil -- Put one to two drops in your eyes two times each day. Your eyes will get better within one day but you should keep using it for a few more days to make sure it is completely gone. Your eyes will get blurry from the oil but it does not sting or hurt and in fact can be soothing.

Lemon Juice -- Take an eye dropper and put one to two drops of freshly squeezed lemon juice in the infected eye. This will sting and hurt some but is well known to cause immediate improvement if you are looking for a really fast cure.

Sea Salt -- Put a teaspoon of sea salt in one cup warm water and stir until dissolved. You can ether drop the saline solution you have created directly into your eye or use a cotton ball and get it really wet and put on your eye allowing the water to run into your eye. This is a tried and true remedy used in England.

Hope these are helpful and good luck.
